Stephen Robert Wells, back in Paddington at last |
The namesake Wells line of my husband's paternal ancestry came from London, at least for the several generations between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth century.
Stephen Robert Wells lived in Paddington before he emigrated to Utah, and his mother Sarah Wells lived at 16 Caroline Place until her death in 1871. We visited this summer and found Sarah's home. It is a three-story brick corner building with climbing roses in a lovely upscale Bayswater neighborhood, just a few minutes' walk from Hyde Park (and the BYU Study Abroad Center) and the Bayswater tube stop. Perhaps Sarah enjoyed a daily stroll in Kensington Gardens?
