Gathering with cousins for the Easter celebrations, we also marked the milestone of an ancestral birthday together.
Grandma Rose would have been 107! Many of these descendants were born after her death in 2005, and were excited to learn about their heritage. Grandma Wells put out heirlooms and heritage items in a lovely display, we had a first person vignette performed by a great-granddaughter in her wedding dress, and activities which included a bingo game, word search, and palindrome worksheet (since her name was a palindrome). Although pomegranates were out of season, her candy bowl treats and bran muffins were authentic and delicious. (One funny tidbit we learned: Grandpa George named his cows after Hannah's book club friends.) We acknowledged her descendants who share her name, and sang a birthday song in her honor.
