After emigrating from Germany, and then crossing the plains from Pennsylvania in the mid-nineteenth century, the Martin and Adelgunda Heiner pioneer family settled in a Utah canyon east of Ogden, in the town of Morgan. Just like their German hometown in Wasungen, this town is located on a river, and the two are actually in the process of becoming "sister cities" due to this Heiner connection.
Although the original Heiner family home was torn down in the early 1970s, the homes and ranch of their sons Daniel and Anthony are still there to be seen. The old rock church from their era is also gone. The Heiner ranch up Echo Canyon was bought by others in the 1930s, but the historic name is preserved as the Ensign Ranch in Heiner Canyon.
Our family organization put together this helpful map and explanation of further points of interest:

The Morgan Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum houses these portraits of Martin and Adelgunda:

the dove is reminiscent of the story in Adelgunda's life where she felt that the Lord sent her a bird with a message of peace |
Reportedly Martin's zither is in the Weber DUP museum, which will require further sleuthing.
Their graves are located in the North Morgan cemetery at 601 N 700 E.
As our visiting German historian said at a recent reunion, "Today we are all Heiners!"
