Party game ideas: Making family history fun

Family History Fun

Celebrate ancestors’ birthdays with their signature recipes/food, music, or costumes

Create a family cookbook with grandma’s recipes, photos; make the recipes wearing a family apron

Play with photos: color them in photoshop, blow them up, have paper doll ancestor games

Make photos into a wreath, Christmas ornaments, wall tree

Recreate ancestral photos by posing as the ancestor you resemble

Hold an awkward ancestor photo contest: find best hairstyle, unusual beard

Go on a photo hunt to find out which ancestor you most resemble

Make photo books, children’s storybooks, scrapbooks, family calendars with ancestral birthdays

Put heirlooms in a shadowbox to display; photograph family and personal heirlooms

Go on ancestral pilgrimages to find the houses, cemeteries, and churches of your family’s past

Create a family history quilt/photo blanket

Incorporate heritage into milestone events (baby showers, wedding receptions, priesthood)

Record family stories on your phone and upload to www.familysearch.org

Find ancestral graves at a cemetery, and put up photos and signs there for other family members

Look up “family history ideas” on Pinterest and get inspired

Make “remember me” Bingo, Go Fish, or Guess Who to play for Family Home Evening/reunions

Request ancestors’ patriarchal blessings on lds.org

Join (or make) a Facebook group for descendants of a particular ancestor, find or make a blog

Test your DNA to learn more about your roots

Use Waterlogue or Brushstroke apps to turn photos into heirloom paintings; design a family logo

Dress up in heirloom clothes or costumes of the era, act out family stories for FHE charades

(ideas I shared at a recent Relief Society activity)
