Heritage Trail: European Research

In preparation for our summer travels, I tried to organize potential sites and find what was going to be worth visiting with our limited time and children interest levels. Here's what I came up with as a guide, and wished we could've made it everywhere on the list! (There are many more locations in England, but we were primarily traveling in the southwest--need to go back for Cottams in York, Welches in Chesterfield, and so on.)

Church of St Thomas

Scandinavia
See where Sorensens, Hegsteds, and Borglums lived in Denmark (Hogsted Vrejlev Church, Aalborg sign, Hjorring, Vennebjerg church)
Soro-Sorensen farm
Vemmelev—no house to see but old Norman church with whitewashed walls with originally stars underneath, caretaker gave Ann a tour, couldn’t come up with island coastal house likely option, but see where Mary was christened in stone baptistry
Think of Anna Gustava Cottam in Tegneby, Bohus, Sweden (by Gothenburg)
Think of Jensens leaving Oslo

Scotland Think of Bathgates in Bathgate
Hunters—born in Stobhill and Armadale near Bathgate
Think of Muirs, Robbs and McFarlanes in Stirling, an hour west of Edinburgh

Wales Peters in Ffestiniog, James, Llewellyns

England
Liverpool where pioneers sailed from, Charlotte Perkes had millinery store but nothing to see there
Dudley where Perkes were from, St Thomas church
Birmingham where Rebecca Rogers lived, not much to see from her life
Audlem where the Billingtons were lockkeepers on the canal—hopefully find house, St James church
Ashow parish north of Warwick where Billingtons were from (not in cemetery)
Chalford where the Thornes lived—parish church
Paddington where Stephen Robert Wells was from, Marylebone parish
Hoopers from Cornwall
