Happy 214th Deathday, Nicholas Welch (?-1797)

John Welch's third-great-grandfather

Who doesn't love a good mystery?  This ancestor Nicholas is it.  I think he may have been what first got me interested in genealogy, when as a teenager I read his one page bio and was told there were no answers for the mystery told therein.

Gawain Wells' grandfather

Saint George was born in St. George, married in St. George, and died and buried in St. George.

Happy 94th Birthday, Fay Brandenburg Cramer (1917-1946)!

Wally Cramer's first wife

Fay is my step-grandmother of sorts, and has no descendant of her own to honor her.

Happy 392nd Birthday, Nathaniel Fish (1619-1693)!

My children's tenth-great-grandfather on both Hatch and Grover lines

Nathaniel was born in England to Thomas and Mary Fish, the oldest of three sons.  He married Lydia Miller about 1646, and they came to Massachusetts sometime before 1648.  What bravery to leave the known world and join the Pilgrims only decades after America had begun to be colonized!  They had five sons. My line descends through their oldest son Nathan, my husband's line through their second son Ambrose.

When we were newlyweds, I was looking through my husband's genealogy at his cousin's house (pre-internet days).  Some of the names looked familiar.  I went home and looked at what records my mom had.  My husband and I connected on three different lines (also those of Roger Eastman and William Swift) nine generations back!  I was so excited, I called him at work to tell him we were cousins.  Our youngest two children are named after this Fish couple.
